Micro-and nano encapsulation

There is sometime misunderstanding about the definition of micro or nano encapsulation, some refer to inclusion of micro/nano size substances into any matrix material. We conduct continued research in cell immobilisation for biotechnological applications. Delivery of precise amounts of liquid active substance, such as enzymes, in a dry granule is part of our daily work.

High performance micro encapsulation

is the process targeted at creating a barrier between the core material in fine powder or droplet form and its environment. The membrane material and process will be chosen to release its content under well-defined conditions. Using food approved material such as lipids, carbohydrates or proteins.

Typical application examples of micro-encapsulation are: moisture and/or oxygen barriers for unstable products; taste masking of health beneficial ingredients with objectionable flavour in food. Without a controlled release of ingredients a number of food products would taste badly; be of less nutritional value; some of them could simply not be processed without micro-encapsulation.

MCC has unique experience in controlled delivery and drying of micro organisms.  Applications such as rumen by-pass, gastric juice resistance, aquaculture are very demanding micro encapsulation processes.

The succes with the encapsulation of micro organisms is the result of the development of specialized analytical methods to measure activity change after process conditions.

Bioavailability studies in vitro or in vivo are amongst the specialized analytical services, we provide.
